Information used to make your paper
We process the account details, recipient and mailing information, photos, captions, family labels, publication settings, and payment records needed to create, print, and deliver your newspapers.
How we use information
We use this information to operate accounts, generate and render newspaper editions, provide requested service notifications, process payments, fulfill print orders, prevent abuse, support customers, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use SMS consent to authorize marketing.
Photo date and place context
Phone photos can contain their capture date, time, and GPS location. We may use that metadata to establish accurate town, venue, and source-backed event context for the newspaper, including through mapping and source-research providers working for us. Embedded metadata is stripped from the publication image, coordinates and street addresses are never printed, and unsupported place or event claims are withheld from the writer.
Photo and newspaper retention
Photos remain private while they are on the photo desk and while an edition can still be edited. After an edition is finalized, we preserve its verified newspaper PDF and keep source photos for a 30-day recovery period before deleting them. Unused photo-desk images may be deleted after 90 days. Temporary proof images and processing files may be removed sooner because they can be recreated from the final newspaper.
Final newspapers remain in your account archive even if a mailing plan ends. Face references are managed separately and remain until you remove them or delete your account. Private media may be stored by infrastructure providers working for us, is protected in transit and at rest, and is never made public as customer photo storage.
Optional face suggestions and segmentation
When enabled, Kin Press may compare faces in a newly uploaded photo with the private reference photos in your People catalog and suggest familiar-person tags. Face embeddings and quality scores are retained with those private references to avoid repeatedly analyzing the same image. Suggestions are visibly marked and can be corrected or removed before publication. We do not compare faces against a public or third-party identity database.
Separately, when reference segmentation is enabled and you manually choose an individual tagged face as suitable reference material, the tagged photo and click point may be sent to our segmentation provider to isolate that person into a reusable private reference cutout. Every tagged person still remains available as narrative context for the newspaper, whether or not their face is selected as a reference. Each person’s library is capped at six references, and samples that fail automated clarity or identity-consistency checks are not used for matching. Face suggestions and reference segmentation have independent controls under Settings → Photo intelligence. Turning either feature off stops new processing by that feature; existing tags and references remain until you edit or delete them.
Completion notifications
We use your account email to send service messages about your edition. If you separately opt into a one-time SMS completion alert, we store the mobile number, the time and method of consent, the associated edition, and delivery status.
All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information won’t be shared with any third parties.
Your choices
SMS enrollment is optional and is not a condition of purchase. Reply STOP to opt out and HELP for help. You may ask us to correct or delete account information, subject to records retained for fulfillment, fraud prevention, tax, security, or legal obligations.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, verify final newspaper artifacts before source deletion, and retain information only as long as needed for the purposes above. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
